Tier-2 Visa(work in UK) 🇬🇧
The Tier 2 (General) Visa allows skilled workers from outside the EEA and Switzerland to work in the UK, provided they have a job offer from a UK employer with a valid Tier 2 sponsorship licence.
Your employer must hold a UKVI sponsorship licence and issue you a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which contains details about your job, salary, and sponsorship confirmation.
Tier 2 Visa Requirements
- To qualify, you must:
- Have a job offer from a UK employer with a Tier 2 Sponsor Licence.
- Be issued a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) by your employer.
- Earn a salary of at least £35,000 or the appropriate rate for your job.
- Meet the English language requirement (CEFR Level B1).
- Show maintenance funds of £945 (unless your sponsor certifies maintenance).
Tier 2 Visa Points-Based System
- To apply, you need 70 points based on the following:
- Certificate of Sponsorship – 30 points.
- Appropriate Salary – 20 points.
- English Language Requirement – 10 points.

Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)
- A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is a digital reference number issued by your employer. It is valid for three months and is required for your visa application.
- Your CoS must confirm:
- Your job title and responsibilities.
- That your salary meets the minimum wage requirements.
- That your employer is sponsoring your Tier 2 Visa.
Extending a Tier 2 (General) Visa
- You can apply for an extension before your current visa expires if:
- You are still employed in the same job.
- You continue to work for the same employer with a valid Tier 2 Sponsor Licence.
Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) – Tier 2 Visa
- After 5 years on a Tier 2 Visa, you can apply for Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain – ILR) if you:
- Have continuously lived in the UK for 5 years.
- Earn at least £35,000 annually or the appropriate rate.
- Meet the Knowledge of Language and Life (KoLL) requirements.
- Have not been absent from the UK for more than 180 days per year.
